Just when I thought I was done writing for the week, Joey Bada$$ pulled me back in. The Pro Era leader linked up with Statik Selektah, who is basically his offensive coordinator at this point, for their latest masterpiece. Brooklyn’s Own was released on March 9th in remembrance of the anniversary of The Notorious B.I.G.’s passing. Biggie was Brooklyn’s all time best emcee and Joey is Kings County’s finest for the foreseeable future. So it’s only right he pays homage to the veteran and their shared borough. The instrumental is cool, calm, collected & arrives just in time for warmer weather. I’ve been bumping this the last two days straight as New Jersey finally thawed out and I could take walks around the block again in short sleeves. This song is built for breezy nights outdoors. Hell, I wanna see Joey perform this with a live band, as the guitar Statik used on the beat is glorious. Listen to Brooklyn’s Own after the break. Mar 11, 2016
