Listen: Happy Birthday - @childish_major feat. @isaiahrashad & @justsza

So there’s no shortage of birthday songs in rap. With 50 Cent’s In Da Club, Trey Songz Say Ahh, and 2 Chainz’ notorious Birthday Song with very direct birthday wishes, we can turn up even if it’s not our big day.

To be honest, it's not like the majority of people can relate to those songs in reality. Childish Major makes a song with a different tone, for people whose special day may not turn out to be so special. He released the new song, Happy Birthday, on July 4th.  That's his (and coincidentally the nation's) birthday. But it’s as if someone breaks up with him on the day of his party, and he tells the girl about herself. Yet it's not an angry song. If anything the upbeat tempo combined with the pissed off lyrics makes the piece ironic and almost comical. Isaiah Rashad spits a verse mirroring Major’s style and sentiments and SZA (aka my hair crush) comes in at the end to slow things down, telling us not to cry. Thanks girl. So if it is your birthday turn up with a different birthday song, but this one definitely worth a listen the day after.
