Whether you’ve been paying attention or not, Statik Selektah has established himself as one of the best producers in Hip Hop.
The Boston beat maker has released at least one album of his own in the past three years, all of which take pride in showcasing musical stylings that are traditionally East Coast. This is in addition to songs he’s produced for countless other rappers’ mixtapes and albums, such as the likes of Action Bronson and Joey Bada$$. Fittingly enough, both New York emcees make an appearance on the first single for Statik’s forthcoming offering Lucky 7. Beautiful Life has the respective natives of Queens and Brooklyn collide on another masterfully done beat. The beat gives off an aura that is distinctively Old New York, almost disco-like. Bronson and Joey utilize it well, as Statik has always managed to get the best out of both rappers when they work together. The beat also features something of a Statik Selektah trademark as of lately in which the beat is made and then punctuated with a live musician (in this case a trumpeter and a pianist I think) riffing over said beat. It’s a great technique which makes the production seem more live, especially in today’s world of overly artificial horseshit.
