Preview: #WarxLeisure - @Miguel

R&B has been crazy this year. A bunch of new or semi new artists flooded the scene and dropped debuts. All year long and especially this fall I've struggled trying to find out which one was best. The problem is everyone hasn't dropped yet. Miguel returns and what he's done thusfar I liked. War and Leisure drops in a little more than a week and the hype surrounding it is valid. His last project, Wildheart was....experimental. I wasn't a huge fan. It's highs were high and it's lows were atrocious. That's my opinion.


The next year he followed up with a joint, Come Thru and Chill. I'm still kinda hoping and praying it makes his upcoming LP and his performance on the Late Show in September all but confirmed it. He also dropped three new singles before the album: Sky Walker with Travis Scott, Told You So, and Pineapple Skies which he premiered on GGN with Snoop Dogg which you can see above. The sound sounding like the Miguel we all love. War and Leisure is coming out soon, December 1st.

#ICYMI Monday: Come Through And Chill - @Miguel

I'm not going to sugarcoat this. Miguel's last album Wildheart was less than stellar especially in comparison with his first two full lengths.

With the exception of a few tracks I'm sure I'm not the only one who wasn't feeling the project. It was definitely experimental and weird, this is Miguel we're talking about I think it's okay for him to take some chances but this wasn't my cup of tea. So what does he do, he heads back to the studio and commits to the original formula. The result, Come Through and Chill. Play this on you lazy Sunday with that special someone or play in now. We all know Miguel is on the quirkier side of the music industry. He draws influence from a lot of different genres and legends like Prince. In his new video for Waves, the trend continues.

Last week Miguel blessed us with a Relit version of Simple Things that features Chris Brown and Future respectively. He keeps ups with new material this week with a new visual off his Wildheart album. Check out the wavy video by Miguel below.

While Miguel doesn't need any features, they definitely don't hurt. 

Simple Things isn't a new song. Along with Miguel's newest album Wildheart, Simple Things was released earlier this summer. With the help of Brook Dleau, he decided to remix or "Re-lit" the song recently. Chris Brown adds some dimension with smooth background vocals in Miguel's first verse. He also gets his own verse afterwards. We all know that Chris wouldn't just settle for the background. Future's verse speeds things up at the end to build a musical momentum. With a sultry guitar loaded beat, the song was already sexy, but now it is attractive to an even bigger audience than before. Smart move Miguel. I always get excited to hear that R&B is making a revival. Some may say it never left but nowadays we see the stars take a Pop, Sex, and Rap route away from the songs about love. Thusfar in their careers Frank Ocean and Miguel always seem to do battle by dropping projects at the same time. While some still wait on Frank Ocean's first offering since Channel Orange others are just as excited for the return of the quirky singer songwriter, Miguel.

The wait is only a little bit shorter as he announced his release date for June 29th. The album will be titled Wildheart. We've already got a single with a familiar partner Wale in a song titled Coffee (F**king). I get it I contridicted what I said earlier about sex but we all gotta eat right? Miguel has always been good at releasing music early if you can remember the Art Dealer Chic, and Water/Air Preview EPs. With that being said he recently released tracks on his Vevo and streaming on Spotify in advance. On his new songs he has features from Lenny Kravitz and Kurrupt.
